The most recent thing that has been blowing my mind is what Jesus did for his disciples before the Passover Festival. John 13 paints a picture of the lowly act that Jesus did. He washed the disciples feet. At first I did not understand the vastness of this act until i experienced it.
The leaders on my team, during squad time, washed each one of our feet. They knelt down on their own will, and washed all of our feet. Now this may seem weird, but all I could feel in the moment was my unworthiness. Why should I deserve this? The answer is, I don’t. None of us deserve this. We don’t deserve anything. Even Peter understood this. John 13:8 says, “you shall never wash my feet.” Yet Jesus still washed the grim off of their feet. Jesus took the lowliest spot possible and did it in a willing heart. And He didn’t stop there. He died a terrible death to cover over each one of our sins. He covered all of our lies, gossip, pride and sexual sins. He covered them ALL.
I call you today to serve in the small ways and the large, wash each other in love and grace, and be humble just as Jesus was.
